Nakasero Market:

This one of the oldest market in the city and is located in the city centre on Market street.  Here will see and find huge and variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and some are indigenous to Uganda.  Also lots of spices legumes and many grains and household items are found here. Also this market is surrounded by many shops where you can shop hardware, sanitary  ware, and electric equipment.  Nakasero market is  an old market established during colonial days in early 1900.

Today Nakasero market is meeting point and a great agro market products. All fruits grown in Uganda and vegetables fin their way  to this market. While at the hotel  in city centre and you feel want to taste fresh fruit just walk  to this market and pick any amount of fresh fruits to which cut and enjoy Uganda fresh fruits at your hotel room.

Uganda National Theatre  Culture and Entertainment.

Another place not to miss is the National Theatre point. This located Near the Uganda Parliament and Uganda Broadcasting Corporation UBC. This where cultural performance takes place in drama, troupes and stage new productions. Also talented people like Anne Kansiime  one our best  African and international comedian stage their shows here.  Anne Kasiime ‘s popularity comedian shows took her to the one of the Queen Elizabeth ‘s Palace in United Kingdom to perform for the Queen  .  She is a multi-award winning talent who has used social media to connect with audiences beyond Uganda, gaining a following among young and old in both Africa and the Diaspora. She hails from the south-western Ugandan district of Kabale but, like many young Ugandans looking out for education and work opportunities, has been living in Kampala for the last 10 years where she has been working to break into the local comedy scene.

Kansiime’s comedy and storylines are easy to identify with for fans across Africa. It touches on the lives of African women, both contemporary and traditional, rural or urban. Most times she plays obnoxious, hard-to-please women, but behind the characters lie powerful storylines – whether she is talking about transportation challenges, or job interviews, Kansiime sure makes herself heard. She has broken barriers in an area that doesn’t have many female performers. If she is not on stage in Uganda, she is serving rib-cracking performances in various other African cities.

Also behind this theatre are crafts shops where you can pick some souvenirs to help you keep Uganda in memory even for your children and family members and friend.

Owino Market.

This market is located down town in Kampala.  In Uganda where we do not have many designer shops , Owino market is the place to look for special designer clothing  if you  don’t mind putting on old and already used clothes and materials. Here the experience as you walk through this market is different in many markets you are used too at home. Many people and shouting on top of their voices price tagging their items noise will kill your eardrums. The so many voices you are hearing eventually turns into music interludes which you can stop at point and listen.

We may soon  likely miss on this fascinating experience because of Covid 19 which is encouraging social distance. While here in Owino market it was bum to bum  squeezing out your way out all the time. Even the market of old clothing designer old clothes market may diminish because people now fear that some of the clothes may be contaminated with covid19 virus.

Famous  Uganda Rolex:   Egg and Chapatti  Meal in Kampala.

You cannot talk about Owino market and fail to talk about Uganda Rolex .  A Rolex is a Uganda food made from Eggs and chapatti mixed with some vegetables and tomatoes. To me though it is believed it started from Wandegeya  town  a suburb of Kampala near Makerere University  but it could have been discovered by the  boys from Owino Market   but these are usually not educated and rarely do media  give them attention. So when it reached   Wandegeya then people started to believe that it started from there because here it is easily eaten by Makerere University community the elites and journalists and hence publicity to the world.

Rolex is now an international cousin now served in 2- 5 star hotels  globally. You need to walk to Sheraton  Hotel in Kampala a 5 Star  hotel and ask for one , it will be availed. However you need to taste that one on the Roadside also or in the market s very fresh and you stand there and see how the fellow twists chapatti and eggs as you salivate until you start eating it.  CNN has written about  Uganda Rolex . There are now Rolex festivals every year happening and taking place in different parts of Uganda . Young generation   enjoy this festival and lots of music and entertainment take place with many Rolex makers competing for the best  delicious Rolex maker. Today this Rolex is being re-invented where other new ingredients are being added to make it one of the finest Uganda  snack served  at our restaurants in very short time and very delicious. Uganda Airlines has added it on one of its menus and the Minister of Tourism Hon  Godfrey Kiwanda  launched it as part of a community empowerment program, aiming to increase demand for the Rolex as a fast food and to promote Rolex-making as a commercial activity.  The minister  of tourism, wildlife and antiquities  while launching and endorsing  Rolex  to be  proudly Ugandan product  to be enjoyed by  Uganda tourists on Uganda Tours  . So Rolex is BUBU ‘ Buy Uganda Build Uganda’.   So what better idea  of Ugandan culture to partake of this proudly Ugandan delicacy? So while on the city tour  with us will arrange where to order a Rolex  for you to taste.

Religious Establishments

Roman Catholic has the largest following in Uganda 41.9% and their beautiful St. Mary’s Cathedral sits on the hilltop of Rubaga and was built in 1914 and completed in 1925. At one time this was royal seat of one of eh Kings of Buganda. The second big number following  is the Anglican Church of Uganda  with 36 % . The Anglicans have got their seat at Namirembe Hilltop where their cathedral was built since 1892  the church has been worked upon and looks very beautiful. Namirembe hill commands one of the best spectacular viewing points of Kampala City.

The rest percent of Christians are claimed by Evangelical and Pentecostal  Churches ( Ebiwempe)  which are continuing eating and taking away mostly the youth who were born Roman Catholics or Anglicans. The next popular religion in Uganda is the Muslim community who shares 12% of the people of Uganda.  The Muslims have their seat at Old Kampala Mosque which was built with the help of Conel Muwamar Gadaffi of Libya. This old Kampala mosque provides 360 degrees viewing of Kampala once you access it top notch. The Muslims also have got sectors the Shia, Sunni, Ahmadiyya, etc. There is also other Non-Christian and Muslim religions like the Bahai.

The Bahai have got one temple in Uganda and it is believed to be the only one in Africa. It started here in Uganda in 1957 and was opened to the public in 1961. This Bahai temple has got super panoramic gardens where you can views the whole of Kampala. Even other people who are not Bahai find themselves here to enjoy the tranquility and the surroundings and hear sounds of birds of Kampala.
