
Uganda is one of the leading birding tour  destination in Africa . Over 1000 bird species have been listed in the country. 1 single day can yeild over 300 species of birds seen.  This 8 days will allow to visit places with bird concentrations in the country. Out of 1500 bird species found in East Africa, Uganda birding safaris alone has 1000  species. This 8 days  trail allows to sample and  to explore Uganda’s excellent great diversity of habitats, from the papyrus-fringed swamps of Lake Victoria to both lowland and highland forests that support different species of birds around Lake Victoria and the great lakes of East Africa.
You will be met by our guides at Entebbe International Airport for a transfer to you to hotel of your choice Entebbe. If time allows will go for a birding tour from the Entebbe area. From Entebbe bird checklist look out for birds such as Slender-billed Weaver, Golden-backed Weaver, Grey-headed Gull, Long-tailed Cormorant, Pied Kingfisher, Giant Kingfisher, Swamp Flycatcher, Black-and-white Casqued Hornbill, Splendid Starling, Black-headed Gonolek, Orange Weaver, Broad-billed Roller, Verreaux’s Eagle-owl, Ross’s Turaco, Pied Hornbill, Crowned Hornbill, Open-billed Stork, Red-chested Sunbird, Brown-throated Weaver, Yellow-billed Duck, Great Reed Warbler, Yellow-backed Weaver, Common Squacco Heron, Grey-caped Warbler, Sedge Warbler and many others.
On your second day will carry out birding from the Entebbe habitats . After breakfast your local bird guide will take you through the different areas in Entebbe birding trails. Over 170 species have been recorded with in the different habitats such as wetlands and swamps, lake shores, grassland environments among others . Our guide will take you to the Lutembe bay which is one of the best birding site nearest to Kampala and Entebbe. Look out for birds such as Brown Twin-spot, White-headed Barbet, Black-headed Bush-shrike, Red-headed Lovebird, Yellowbill, Double-toothed Barbet, Tambourine Dove, Little Ringed Plover, Verreaux’s Eagle-owl, Richard’s Pipit, Klaas’s Cuckoo and many others.
An early breakfast will be served, your birding guide will lead you to Mabamba Swamp which is situated 50km west of Kampala. Mabamba Swamp is the most accessible site for spotting the wild species of Shoebill Stork in the whole world. From this birding destination you have high chances of seeing the shoebill, the most prized sought bird by worldwide bird watchers. Take a canoe trip through this papyrus swamp look out for papyrus specialist birds such as the Saddle-billed Stork, Malachite Kingfisher, African Jacana. Also look out for the Swamp Flycatcher, African Water Rail, Common Moorhen, African Purple Swamphen, Lesser Jacana, African Pygmy Goose, White-faced Whistling-duck, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, Squacco Heron, Goliath Heron, Winding Cisticola and Black Crake to mention but a few. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Kampala.
Will depart early in the morning for Queen Elizabeth National Park located in the south western part of Uganda. Will do birding along the way. Stop at Mbarara for lunch . After lunch proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park, the highest concentrations of birds of Uganda and ranks well in the whole world. The park has got over 600 recorded bird species. Serious birders can record over 300 bird species in one day. Interesting bird species in this park include pelicans, skimmers, kingfishers, thick-knees, storks, martins, swallows, weavers, raptors, canaries, kites, and many grassland specialties. You will carry out birding in different habitats which include open savannah grasslands and woodlands as well as the Kazinga channel which joins Lake Edward and Lake George rich in large crowds of hippos and buffaloes, reptiles such as Crocodile and Lizard as well as water birds such as Pelicans, Saddle-bill Storks, African Fish Eagles, African Jacanas and Kingfishers. Apart from birds, Queen Elizabeth hosts about 20 predators and 95 mammalian species. Overnight accommodation at Mweya Safari Lodge/Jacana Safari Lodge/ Hippo Hill Lodge
After an early breakfast, will carryout a game drive looking gale life and other endemic species. After lunch will transfer to Lake Mburo National Park located southern part of Uganda. This park is one of the richest birding habitat hosting acacia associated species, papyrus specialists, forest birds as well as water birds. Your drive to this park is punctuated with several stops to see the Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Wattled Lapwing, Crowned Plover, African Harrier, Variable Sunbird, Southern Red Bishop, several lark species and many others that can be seen on this scenic drive. From Lake Mburo acacia dominated savanna habitats look out for birds such as Brown-chested Lapwing, Lilac-breasted Roller, Carmine Bee-eaters, Black-bellied Bustard, Helmeted Guinea fowl, Handsome Francolin, Rufous-naped Lark, vultures, eagles, kites among others. Dinner and overnight at Mantana tented camp
Start your day with a look out for birds from the papyrus environments. From the fringing swamps look out for secretive papyrus specialists such as the Sitatunga Antelope and Red, Black and Yellow Papyrus Gonalek or take boat ride on one the lakes looking for species like the Brown Chested Plover, Red Faced Barbet, Southern Ground Hornbill, Papyrus Yellow Warbler, Yellow Billed Oxpecker, African Finfoot, Black Collard Barbet among others. Return to the lodge for breakfast and later take a boat trip on Lake Mburo. This lake together with the other 4 lakes found with in the park’s boundary attracts a variety of water birds as well as hippos. Return to Kampala in the evening arriving late in the evening.
Time permitting can do city shopping before transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your return flight. End of Safari.
